Parting ways for a few days

Spokane, WA

We received some bad news a few days ago.  Camrin’s step-grandpa passed away.  He sadly had Alzheimer’s but is now resting in peace.  Camrin wanted to be with her grandma, so when we found out when the funeral was we booked her a flight home.  The nearest/ cheapest airport was in Spokane. This is why we only spent one day in Glacier and threw our plans to see Canada in the air.  Oh well, a family is more important.

On August 2nd we drove to Spokane for the night.  Spokane was surprisingly a cool town.  It has a thriving downtown and a sweet park along the river, where we found a grassy spot to eat leftover birthday pizza.  There was even a REI, our favorite store!

How do we get to Spokane? The way we went, up to Bonners Ferry, almost went to Canada.

We see a lot of questionable stuff while driving.
This was in the middle of Northern Idaho. It’s a tie-dyed t-shirt store.
Of course, we had to stop!
We made it to Spokane!

Just in time for sunset.
We even found this crazy sculpture, which is also a children’s slide.
Beautiful City

After exploring downtown Spokane we had to find a place to camp.  All the free camping in forests were at least an hour drive away and Camrin had a plane to catch the next morning.  So, we finally get our first taste of Walmart camping.  It’s not ideal, but in a pinch, it’s a free place to stay for a night.  We were surprised at how many other campers, including big fancy campers,  were in the parking lot. So we didn’t feel too unsafe or poor.

The next morning Laura dropped Camrin off at the airport.

Camrin spent two nights in Milwaukee and Laura found a campsite in Northern Idaho for two nights.

Flying to Milwaukee
Ugly Service Dog. What? Some of them are.

Landing in Milwaukee
Laura’s campsite for a couple of nights.
Osprey nest nearby!
How Laura spent her days.
And a little whiskey to celebrate her official birthday.
Sweet camouflage, but you couldn’t hide from Laura!

We missed each other, but a few days apart gave us different experiences to talk about for a change.

After reuniting we have to decide where to go next.  More of that coming up!
