Beartooth Pass
Red Lodge, MT – Cook City, MT
We got up from our campsite the next morning and packed up our awesome campsite to continue our travels. It’s hard sometimes to leave perfect campsites, especially one with a homemade bench made of downed trees, a hammock, and an ice cold mountain stream for filtering water out of, but we must travel on. We headed through Red Lodge for some coffee and WiFi and then onto the Beartooth Highway
The start of the highway takes you up higher and higher into the sky. There are several harrowing hairpin turns that have to be taken at 25 mph with a 1,000 foot drop off inches away. It’s exhilarating and nauseating. There was snow everywhere once we climbed high enough in elevation and we even saw some backcountry skiers. It’s the first of July and there is still so much snow up here! Anyways, this might be one of the most scenic drives in the U.S. They even film car and truck commercials here. The top of the pass is marked with a sign Elevation – 10,947 ft. Then downwards we go. Around more turns while white knuckling the steering wheel, below the tree line again. Onwards to Yellowstone National Park!
Here are some photos from the Beartooth Pass.
Thanks for stopping by!
My brother and sister in law have ridden there Harley up there. Beautiful pictures. Stay safe.
