The Mojave Preserve is Amazing

November 13th – 15th

Mojave National Preserve

Southern California

We had only planned on spending one night in the Mojave Preserve on our way to Death Valley, but we were blown away at how cool this place is so we decided to stay for three days and skip Death Valley.  We hadn’t done any research on this place, so we didn’t have a clue.  Luckily Camrin just happened to see a photo on Instagram from the preserve and we realized there might be something to this place.

We camped in an amazing spot surrounded by the highest concentration of Joshua Trees in the world and those cool boulder formations.  We practically had the place to ourselves.  The sunsets were amazing, we hiked through a slot canyon, and took time to enjoy our surroundings.

We felt so lucky to stop here.  We almost passed it up so its a lesson to us to do more research on those off the radar places.

First Night and Day

Getting to our campsite just in time for sunset! Wow, what a place!

So much color!!!

Huge Barrel Cactus.

Goodnight Mojave!

The next day. Exploring our area. So many plants to learn about.

Leaves of the Joshua Tree.

The bark of the Joshua Tree.

Joshua Tree!!

Back at camp. Laura finds a peaceful rock to sit on and work on photos.

Shower time!

We love being able to have our electric toothbrush.
When it needs to be charged we’re glad we can power it with the sun.

And sometimes we camp with no bathroom. This tiny shovel comes in handy. 😉

What’s Camrin up to?

Nice!

Laura on her perch. Enjoying the views.

Tina!

So much land!

Sun is starting to set. Painting the nearby mountains blue. It looks like the Patagonia logo.

Seriously.

Laura getting out her big lens.

No words.

Camrin looking epic!

Preparing a late dinner. Our pepper looks funny 🙂

Yummy yummy in our tummies.

Next Day.  Hole in the Wall Trail

An amazing must see for the Preserve is doing the Hole in the wall trail.  It involves walking through a narrow slot canyon, climbing down rocks using rings, and literal holes in the rock walls that can be climbed into.

Laura climbs down.

Cool!

Camrin’s turn!

Showing how narrow the canyon is.

Aww…

Surrounding area.  More cool rock formations.

Nice camouflage!

Pictographs

Wi Fi?!!

We can’t tell you how many times we have fallen for this sign.  :/

Typical dessert scene.  On our way back to our campsite.

Laura is finally getting better at capturing the Milky Way.  Note the yellow in the sky is from the Las Vegas light pollution.  Las Vegas is still 80 miles away.

Thanks for reading our blog!  Up next…  Home for the Holidays!
