July 31st – Ross Creek Cedars

July 31st

Ross Creek Giant Cedars Natural Area

Libby, Montana

Detour to trees.

After our stay at Paradise Gardens’ our host farmer, Paula, recommended we take a detour on our way up to Glacier.  She told us there was a hidden gem of a trail that had giant Cedar trees.  Most of Montana is a dry, arid, and almost dessert-like climate with few trees except for the higher altitudes.  After a few weeks of working in the hot sun, we were pretty interested in a shady hike.  We had to drive several hours out of the way, almost to the Idaho border, for a small patch of giant trees.  However far out of the way, this place was totally worth it!  We had no idea this place existed especially considering this is Montana, but that’s one of the best reasons for Wwoofing and staying with locals.

It is only a mile long loop trail, but in that mile, there are trees that are so big and tall that they create a sense of wonder and excitement.  Here are some photos!

Driving to the furthest corner of Montana. We started at the green dot and ended later in the day at the red dot.

WOW!
Camrin is happy!

“Camrin, are you in there?”
Camrin’s view from inside.
Camrin is becoming one with the trees.

So tall and mighty.

That’s a lot of cairns!

Thanks for checking out our short post.  Up next is Glacier National Park!
